In the 1940s, Japan and Taiwan began research on 'Advanced Caste' rice. This study continues in Taiwan, Indonesia, India and Philippines. In the 1950s, the officials of the Rockefeller Foundation deeply focused on the development of Asia's food. Since paddy is Asia's main food grain, Rockfeller Foundation is also interested in rice research. Warren Waiver of the Natural Science and Agriculture Department of Rockefeller Foundation and deputy director J. George Hera traveled to Asia in 1952-53.
